Macclesfield Hospital Learning, Education and Development Hub

Case Study

About

Macclesfield District General Hospital is one of three hospitals operated by the East Cheshire NHS Trust. The Trust employs over 2,500 staff and provides services for a population of around 400,000 people. The main aim for Macclesfield District General Hospital is to provide the best possible services and care to all patients, which has led to several renovations and expansions within the hospital to provide brand new state-of-the-art facilities.

The Brief

Macclesfield District General Hospital recently built a new Learning, Education and Development Hub (LE&D Hub) in one of their existing on-site buildings which required a range of Audio Visual equipment to provide training sessions and seminars throughout the centre. Sudlows were appointed to carry out the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the new Audio Visual solution. With a tight time constraint to deliver the project, management of lead times and logistics were a major aspect of the project.

The Project

The new Learning, Education and Development Hub features two large rooms for holding seminars and training courses, and three other smaller rooms to hold video conference calls.

For one of the large rooms, Sudlows installed an Epson 6200 Lumen Laser Projector at the front of the classroom attached to a ceiling mount secured into the existing metal structure within the ceiling.

The other large room was fitted with a Samsung 75” Interactive Touch Screen Display. This screen was wall mounted into the wooden pattresses already fitted within the walls.
Both rooms were equipped with the following equipment to allow all devices to function together and provide a remote and on-site learning experience for students:

  • 2x UVC86 dual-eye Intelligent camera and VCR20 Remote Control
  • Yealink MCoreKit-C5 (with MCore Pro mini-PC, MTouch Plus and RoomSensor)
  • 1x AVHub Multi-Camera Processor
  • 1x MVC-BYOD-Extender USB-BYOD Adapter
  • 2x WPP30 Presentation Pod for Wireless Content Sharing
  • 3x VCM38 Ceiling Microphone
  • Built-in 8 Array Microphones
  • 3x Telescopic Rod
  • USB Extender

For the three smaller rooms, Sudlows installed a Yealink 65” Interactive Touch Screen Display with a Logitech Sound Bar connected underneath to provide efficient sound coverage for the room.

Sudlows also installed a 55” media screen in the Reception Area, to be used to display information for the various meetings and training sessions held in the centre.

Conclusion

Sudlows designed, supplied, installed, and commissioned a range of Audio Visual solutions for Macclesfield Hospital’s new Learning, Education and Development Hub. The new Audio Visual equipment will allow the hospital to hold educational meetings and training sessions for users on-site and off-site.

Testimonial

Shaun Williamson, Estates Project and Design Officer at East Cheshire NHS Trust commented;

“East Cheshire NHS Trust partnered with Sudlows on the new state-of-the art Learning, Education and Development Hub, which was funded thanks to a generous legacy donation from a former patient. The audio visual installation included interactive touchscreens, MS Teams enabled cameras and microphones, ceiling mounted projector, lecterns etc. The specification of the technology was of high quality and the installation post completion performs as expected. We were really impressed with the excellent workmanship and following completion of the project there have been minimal snagging items.

“Sudlows’ dedication to the project from design to completion was exceptional, the team went above and beyond to deliver the project to a tight timescale and ensure the project success. Thank you.”

The Sudlows Smart Technology Operations Team added;

“The project we completed at Macclesfield District General Hospital is an excellent example of a collaborative workspace. It will inspire the next generation of medical students in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

“The facility has been completed to a high standard and Sudlows provided the final finishing touches to the training facility. We worked to tight time constraints to ensure this was all installed before a specific date which required us to work around the client’s needs to deliver a successful project.”
